Overview

Celestial Trybe is a digital hymnal and church community app for members of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). Worshippers read hymns in Yoruba, English, French and Egun with sol-fa notes, find services and harvests near them, and connect with Celestians around the world. Soft-Web Digital conceived, designed, built and runs it, and it is rated 4.4 from 386 ratings on the App Store.

The challenge

In many parishes, worship still depends on a printed hymn book. Copies wear out, get left at home, and rarely come in the language or with the notes a member needs.

The hymn book wasn't always with you. Members couldn't follow a hymn at home, on the road or at another parish without their copy.

One language doesn't fit a global church. CCC worships in Yoruba, English, French and Egun, and members often need a hymn in more than one.

Finding the right hymn took time. Searching by number or theme in a thick book slows down service preparation.

Events spread by word of mouth. Harvests, services and guest ministers were shared on WhatsApp groups and flyers, and many members missed them.

Celestians abroad felt far away. Members outside Nigeria had few ways to stay close to the wider CCC family.

The goal was one app that puts the full hymnal in every member's pocket and keeps them connected to church life all week.

Our approach

1. We digitised the hymnal properly. Every hymn has lyrics and sol-fa notes alongside each verse, so members can sing and lead with confidence.

2. We built for four languages. Members switch between Yoruba, English, French and Egun, and find hymns by number, title, category or theme.

3. We made it personal. Members star favourites, build playlists, and get a hymn of the day and suggested hymns on the home screen.

4. We made it work offline. Hymns can be saved for offline use, so worship continues in places with poor or no internet.

5. We put church events on a map. Members find upcoming and ongoing services and harvests by state, with dates, venues and guest ministers, and get notified about events and announcements.

6. We built the community layer. Members discover and connect with Trybe members worldwide.

7. We gave churches and our team the controls. A church dashboard lets parishes post events and announcements, and the admin portal manages hymns, translations, events and users. Giving for donations and tithes is coming soon.

8. We built it to be reused. The hymnal, events, community and giving modules form a base we can adapt for other churches and faith communities.

The outcome

Celestial Trybe launched on iOS and Android in 2025, ships regular updates, and is rated 4.4 from 386 ratings on the App Store, with 1K+ downloads on Google Play.

The hymnal everywhere. Members carry the full collection, with notes, wherever they go.

Four languages in one place. Yoruba, English, French and Egun speakers worship from the same app.

Faster service preparation. Search, categories and favourites make finding the right hymn quick.

Church events that are easy to find. Services and harvests show up by state, with notifications.

A global CCC family. Celestians connect across cities and countries.

A ready base for faith apps. The same foundation can launch a hymnal and community app for another church in far less time.
